The Great Books course is designed for high school students, to include public, private, or homeschool. Adults are welcome to audit the class, but in a passive role. The Great Books will be taught by Jon Farley, PhD, and will include weekly classes held at the Meridian Public Library, Wednesday afternoons from 4-5pm.
The course will emphasize virtues as the thread that connects the works. This emphasis will be on the four cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude with the three theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity.
The goal is to keep the class engaging. This won’t be about reading for the sake of reading, but instead trying to find what lesson the authors are trying to teach us.
These are the books that built our culture. It is our responsibility to pass them on to the next generation.
